This seems to be the word everywhere for me. Sustainability.
Sustainability in fashion.
Sustainability in finances.
Sustainability in business.
Sustainability in relationships.
Sustainability in my to do list.
So, this year I have been working to make my life more sustainable in so many ways. I cut out things that no longer bring me joy, so my to do list is shorter. I moved across the country for a new job that enables me to afford my bills, and I have cut back on bills to make saving possible. I already do many things related to sustainability when it comes to consuming items. I have silicone bags and beeswax wraps that I use. I avoid plastic when I can (knowing that really the corporations who use single use plastic are the real culprits to the pollution in the oceans and me as one single person will not even make a dent in that). I use tote bags to bring home things I buy and I thrift for a lot of what is in my house.
Now, it is time to figure out how to be sustainable in fashion, while still meeting financial needs and finding items that fit my body and are my style.
One big way I already do this is to thrift most of my clothing. I would say that at least 60% of what I have in my closet is thrifted. I do have rules when I am out looking for clothing — like it has to be a higher end brand so I know I will get many wears out of a used piece of clothing, like I never buy Walmart, Target, Old Navy etc. when I am thrifting. The colors have to match what I have already and I have to love the piece I am picking up — no buying just to have.
The other way I am working to make my wardrobe and buying more sustainable is getting pieces from small, sustainable companies who either have extending sizing, or only plus sizes. I have found some amazing companies and some absolutely beautiful pieces. I cannot wait to show you some things I have found and my wishlist for things I want as I dive into this world of sustainable plus size fashion!
None of this would be possible if I had not figured out what my style is. What I like to wear and what I need to have to work, adventuring and just general life.
